Function & Forge

Built for Comebacks

Helping people recover, restore function and rebuild.

Who this is for

All of us

Function & Forge is for people whose work, sport, training or everyday life is being affected by pain, injury or physical restriction.

You might be returning to sport, managing the demands of a physical job, dealing with something that keeps getting in the way, or simply wanting to feel more capable in your body. The starting point is understanding what is happening and deciding what to do next.

Why it matters

An injury affects more than one area of your life

Being unable to do the thing you rely on takes away more than fitness. It affects work, routine, headspace, training and the people you train with.

Most people arrive with the same three questions. What has happened, what should I be doing now, and how do I get back? Those are the questions an appointment here is built around.

The approach

Good questions, a thorough assessment, a plan you understand

01

Listen

A conversation about the problem, your day to day life, your sport or activity, and what you would like to be able to do.

02

Assess

Movement, range, strength and relevant clinical testing to build a working picture of what is going on.

03

Plan

Treatment, rehabilitation and load guidance based on the assessment, with progress reviewed as we go.

Services

Two clear ways to work together

Injury Assessment & Rehabilitation

For pain, injury, restriction or changes in function that are affecting everyday life, work, training or sport. We start with an assessment, discuss what we find and build an appropriate treatment and rehabilitation plan from there.

Recovery Therapy

Hands on treatment for people looking to support recovery, movement and physical wellbeing. Sessions may include sports massage and other appropriate treatment techniques according to individual needs.

Built for Comebacks

Recovery can also be a chance to rebuild

An injury can interrupt training, work and everyday life. Recovery gives us an opportunity to understand what has changed, rebuild physical capacity and make considered decisions about what comes next.

The goal will be different for everyone. It might be returning to competition, moving more comfortably, rebuilding confidence in your body or simply feeling physically capable again.

The clinic

Two spaces, one process

Upstairs

The Function Room

The clinical space. Where you're listened to, assessed, treated and given a plan. Understanding the problem.

Downstairs

The Forge

The movement space. Where rehabilitation can progress into loading and exercise when it is clinically appropriate. Building back.

What to expect

Understanding where we are and what comes next

  • Time to explain the problem without being rushed.
  • An assessment appropriate to your injury, sport and training demands.
  • A clear explanation of the current thinking, including what isn't yet clear.
  • Treatment and rehabilitation based on what we find during your assessment.
  • A clear sense of what happens next, and when it will be reviewed.

Progress is reviewed as treatment and rehabilitation develop. The first few appointments, usually around three, give a sensible early review point. If pain isn’t reducing or function isn’t improving, the approach is reconsidered.

The practitioner

Always the injured one

Function & Forge is practitioner led. Years around rugby and football came first, then Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and, not long into it, a broken arm that needed surgery.

Rehabilitating that injury turned the question from when can I go back into how do I come back well. That thinking is where the clinic started.
